With a small mom owned business, you will get more training and one on one support. There is less competition between the reps as everyone is working not only for themselves, but they are working just as hard to make sure that the small business owner succeeds. You become one big family. You can actually reach and speak to the owner.
Most small businesses are started by a mom with a desire to add to the family income, a single mom struggling to take care of her children, or a person with a hobby and others have seen her product and pushed her to sell it.
Some small business owners have fees to join and or quotas. This ensures that the business owner has income
whether or not you get a sell. When you have no sells you have to buy to meet your quota-. Owner makes money and you now are the proud owner of a product that you probably did not want but hey had to order something to keep your position in the company.
With Big business, you are a number or a name among thousands across the country and sometimes the nation. There are many reps with the same company in the same cities and all are after the same thing- making money. There are so many teams and up lines that you never make it to the owner or owners.
Most big businesses have a whole book of rules and regs that must be followed. You may only advertise in their approved manner and where they say you can- you can not use their name and or images etc....
While this is fine for some..... This restricts how you can run your business- well actually with a big business, it is not your business. You are an Independent Representative/ Distributor/ However they want to label you. While the company makes no claim on you- you are not an employee, You are working for them. You are selling their products for them. Sometimes at a price more than they charge just so you can make money.
Don't get me wrong, I am have been a rep with big business as well as a business owner and a rep with several small mom owned businesses.
I look at the products, the price of the products, is it something people want or need, what makes it better than any other product out there, and is it a product that I believe in and will use myself. If it passes all those qualifications then I sign- oops forgot a big one..... How much does it cost to join?????
I have seen join fees from 2.99 all the way up to 300.00. The 2.99 was a special that normally runs 12.99 and the 300.00 included a large kit. It all depends on how much if any you are able to spend on joining a company and if you can afford to buy a kit.
Do not fall for the payment plans or make 750.00 in sells the first month and your kit is free deals. No one but no one just gives away money.
.
Most companies do have kits available for those that want them and in all honesty a kit or samples does help to sell the products. No one really wants to buy a product that they can not see, touch, smell, or taste.
